Christopher E. Baker, M.D.

Dr. Baker is board certified in orthopedics by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and specializes in sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction. With a focus on patient education, Dr. Baker works with patients to ensure they fully understand their orthopedic options and outcomes. Dr. Baker’s additional training in ultrasound imaging allows him to care for patients who have MRI contraindications due to pacemakers, foreign metal in their bodies or severe claustrophobia.

Dr. Steven Barna is a Board Certified, Fellowship-Trained Interventional Pain Physician who focuses on the non-operative care of spine conditions and other chronic pain conditions. He serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at University of South Florida, as an academic editor for the journal, Medicine, as well as a reviewer for the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma. In addition to serving on the Executive Council of the Hillsborough County Medical Association, Dr. Barna is a also a delegate to the Florida Medical Association.

M. Ellen Beatty, M.D.

Dr. Beatty is a founding member of Florida Orthopaedic Institute. She received her medical education at the University of South Florida in Tampa and completed a general surgery residency at the University of South Florida. Dr. Beatty then pursued plastic surgery training at Duke University. Her hand and microsurgery training was undertaken in Louisville with the world-renowned Kutz and Kleinert Hand Surgery Fellowship. Dr.

Thomas L. Bernasek, M.D.

Dr. Bernasek is a founding member of Florida Orthopaedic Institute. He received his medical training at the Creighton University College of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, and completed his orthopedic residency training at the University of New Mexico. After residency, Dr. Bernasek completed a fellowship in joint replacement and adult reconstruction at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is known nationally and internationally as an expert in joint replacement with vast experience in total hip and knee replacement.

Michael P. Clare, M.D.

Dr. Clare specializes in foot and ankle surgery and post trauma reconstruction. He received his undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota in 1992. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska, College of Medicine in 1996. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Creighton University/University of Nebraska Health Foundation in 2001, and his postgraduate Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery/Lower Extremity Reconstruction at Florida Orthopaedic Institute in conjunction with Tampa General Hospital in 2002.

Mark A. Frankle, M.D.

Dr. Mark A. Frankle has been with Florida Orthopaedic Institute since 1991. He attended Rush University College of Medicine after completing three years of undergraduate studies at Grinnell College in Iowa. Dr. Frankle completed his residency training at the University of South Florida. After residency, he completed an orthopedic pathology and orthopedic implants fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital. He then completed a reconstructive technique research fellowship program at the prestigious AO/ASIF Prosthetic/Implant Research and Development Complex in Davos, Switzerland. Dr.

Dr. Garcia joined Florida Orthopaedic Institute in 2009. An undergraduate of the University of Florida at Gainesville, Dr. Garcia received his medical degree from the University of South Florida, College of Medicine in 2003. After completing a residency in orthopedic surgery from Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, Dr. Garcia completed a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.

Grant G. Garlick, M.D.

Dr. Garlick completed his medical training at the University of South Florida in Tampa and his residency in Newark, New Jersey. After residency, Dr. Garlick completed a fellowship in sports medicine followed by another in adult reconstruction. He has presented papers as well as lectured locally as well as nationally. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Seth I. Gasser, M.D.

Dr. Gasser has been with the Florida Orthopaedic Institute since 1993. He attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1987 as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Gasser completed his orthopaedic residency training at the University of Southern California, and his sports medicine fellowship at the renowned Southern California Center for Sports Medicine. He is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and holds an additional subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine.

Kenneth A. Gustke, M.D.

Dr. Gustke is a founding member and past President of Florida Orthopaedic Institute. He received his medical education at Wayne State University and completed his orthopedic residency at Henry Ford Hospital, both in Detroit. Dr. Gustke received additional training in joint replacement and arthritis surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, and completed a fellowship in joint replacement and adult orthopedic reconstruction at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Herscovici moved to Tampa in 1991; joining Florida Orthopaedic Institute after completing a six-month AO European Traveling Fellowship and a one-year trauma fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition to his trauma and posttraumatic reconstruction practice, he is a nationally recognized lecturer in the care of diseases and injuries of the foot and ankle. His continued interest in dealing with problems of the foot and ankle resulted in him being granted a three-month Foot and Ankle fellowship, in Cincinnati, Ohio under G.

Alfred V. Hess, M.D.

Dr. Alfred Hess is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in disorders of the upper extremity. He began his practice with Florida Orthopaedic Institute in March 1995. Prior to Florida Orthopaedic Institute, Dr. Hess was a full-time physician with the University of South Florida. He is a native of Ohio and a graduate of John Carroll University. He received a Master of Science Degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Howard B. Jackson, M.D., specializes in nonsurgical spine medicine. He received his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Pennsylvania. Dr. Jackson completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation and fellowship in Spine Medicine both, at the University of Pennsylvania. He has a special interest in spine disorders.

Dr. Jackson is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Steven T. Lyons, M.D.

Steven T. Lyons, M.D. specializes in joint replacement and adult reconstruction. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He received his undergraduate degree from Loyola University of Chicago and his medical degree from Rush University School of Medicine, also in Chicago. He then completed his residency training at Wayne State University in Michigan, serving as Chief Resident. Dr. Lyons completed a Total Joint Fellowship at the University of Utah with Aaron A. Hofmann, M.D. His interests are in adult, mainly knee and hip replacement.

Mark A. Mighell, M.D., specializes in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He was an Orthopaedic resident at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. He completed a Shoulder and Elbow Surgery fellowship at Florida Orthopaedic Institute, training under Dr. Mark A. Frankle. Following his fellowship, he was asked to join the Florida Orthopaedic Institute Shoulder and Elbow Team, one of the highest honors to partner where one trained.

Michael A. Miranda, D.O., M.S.

Dr. Miranda is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and specializes in adult reconstruction and arthritis surgery of the hip and knee. Dr. Miranda specializes in the direct anterior hip approach and minimally invasive surgery of the hip and knee, as well as outpatient total joint arthroplasty.  He also specializes in complex revision total hip and knee arthroplasty.  Dr. Miranda performs MAKO robotic hip and uni-compartmental knee replacements. Adam C. Morse, D.O.

Dr. Morse has been with Florida Orthopaedic Institute since 1999. He received his Bachelors Degree in Biology from the University of Southern California in 1988. He then graduated in the top 10 percent of his medical school class from the Western University of Health Sciences in California. He completed his Internship through Ohio University, and his Orthopedic Surgical Residency through Michigan State University. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship here at Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Dr.

Brian Palumbo, M.D.

Dr. Palumbo is pending board certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and specializes in adult reconstructive surgery. With a focus on diagnosing and treating hip and knee arthritis and its affects, Dr.

Donna A. Saatman, M.D.

Dr. Saatman is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and specializes in the surgical treatment of adult degenerative spine and peripheral nerve disease. After graduating as the first female resident from the University of South Florida’s neurosurgery program, Dr. Saatman provided unsurpassed patient care for 10 years at a private clinic in Brandon, Florida, where she served as president and chief neurosurgeon.

H. Claude Sagi, M.D., is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has completed two years of subspecialty fellowship training in Orthopaedic Traumatology (Florida Orthopaedic Institute/Tampa General Hospital) and Spinal Surgery (SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse).

Roy W. Sanders, M.D.

Dr. Sanders specializes in acute trauma and posttraumatic reconstruction, as well as Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is the President of Florida Orthopaedic Institute, a group he helped found, and the Director of the Orthopaedic Trauma Service. Dr. Sanders attended medical school at the New York University School of Medicine in New York City, and performed his residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute, also in New York City, graduating in 1985. Jeff Sellman, M.D.

Dr. Sellman is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, board eligible in primary care sports medicine and specializes in general and primary care sports medicine.

Dr. Small is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spine surgery. He has been with Florida Orthopaedic Institute since 1996. Dr. Small completed his medical education at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Dr. Small also received a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Nebraska. After completing a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, he completed a spine fellowship at the renowned Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California. Jeffrey D. Stone, M.D., specializes in Hand, Wrist, Elbow, Shoulder, and Microsurgery. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and completed his residency training at the University of Pittsburgh department of Orthopaedic Surgery, where he also pursued his interest in biomechanics and robotics research.

Dr. Walling is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery as well as musculoskeletal oncology. He was director of the Orthopaedic Residency training program at the University of South Florida and Full Professor until 1989 when he became a founding member of Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Dr. Walling received his medical education at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of South Florida.

David T. Watson, M.D., specializes in Orthopedic Trauma and Adult Reconstruction and Arthritis Surgery. He received his Medical degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He performed his Orthopaedic Residency and Internship training at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Dr. Watson completed his fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction at Cornell University Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and his fellowship training for Orthopaedic Trauma at Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa, Florida.

Marc A. Weinstein, M.D., specializes in spinal surgery. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University, and received his medical degree from the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Weinstein completed his Orthopaedic residency at the Yale University School of Medicine's Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, a fellowship in spine research at Cornell University and the hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, and a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center under the direction of Dr. Frank Eismont.

Jeffrey A. Westerfield, M.D., M.B.A.

Dr. Westerfield is board certified in family medicine and completed a sports medicine fellowship at Andrews Sports Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama. With a passion to get athletes of all levels back in the game, Dr. Westerfield specializes in musculoskeletal injuries and has extensive experience in the use of ultrasound for intra-articular injections of steroids, visco-supplementation, autologous blood, platelet-rich plasma and stem cell regenerative procedures.
